Whether you are married, planning a marriage or not even thinking about it, you are sure to love Vision in White by Nora Roberts. Yes, this is chick lit at its best and Roberts successfully combines romance with fun and a bit of adventure. Nora Robert is the preeminent queen of the romance novel and this book safeguards her well-deserved crown and scepter!
Ever since their childhood Mackenzie Elliot and her 3 best friends (Emma, Parker, and Laurel) have been arranging weddings. Now, as adults, they've set up a wedding planning business, with each of them adding their strengths to the team:
Parker's parents left her the perfect mansion for hosting weddings and with her obsessive-compulsive nature, she takes care of all the nitty- gritty details;
Laurel makes masterpiece cakes and pastry deserts. Together they form 'Vows' a wedding and event planning company.
Each book in the series centers around one of the 4 friends. Visions in White, the first book in the quartet, introduces us to Mac, the professional photographer.
Ironically, although Mac enjoys her work she believes a wedding is not for her - her parents didn't have an exemplary marriage. Her father walked out on them to marry another woman and her mother's love life has always been a revolving door. So when Mac bumps into old schoolmate Carter Maguire who's looking to settle down and rekindle his feelings for her, Mac's initial impulse is to run screaming in the other direction. However, since there's no denying her attraction to Carter she decides to figure out a way to make Carter into "a friend with benefits."
Mac's machinations with both Carter and her friends are hilarious to read about. Overall the characters in the book are well developed and true to life. Women will surely identify with at least one of the "girlfriends" in the book however, Roberts has made the subject of weddings so engaging and funny, that almost anyone will love reading this book.
